The MetSol Process
The 'Metsol Process' allows galvanisers and EAF steel producers to reduce or eliminate waste streams while enabling the production of high purity zinc oxide with excellent profit margins.
Alternatively producers of crude zinc oxide (CZO) or aggregators of zinc bearing wastes can produce a higher value output than typical fertilizer grade oxides.
The MetSol Process is an innovative and patent-pending hydrometallurgical process using a unique extraction and recovery method to overcome economic problems that previously prevented attempts at the commercialisation of hydrometallurgical processes in this sector. It generates zinc oxide as a direct output, without the need to go via an intermediate zinc metal step.
Benefits of the MetSol Process:
- Low capital and operating costs,
- Environmentally friendly,
- Substantially reduces and/or eliminates the need for disposal to land fill,
- Plant footprints are small so plants can be installed close to where the waste is generated.
Zinc Oxide Extraction
Zinc rich waste streams, like those typically found in EAF Dust and galvanisers ash, can be effectively separated and purified as high grade white zinc oxide (ZnO) powder. Currently the majority of the worlds electric arc furnace dust (EAFD) is disposed to land fill. MetSol typically reduces landfill disposal down to as much as 3% of the original volumes.
MetSol's technology is fundamentally different from existing technologies. The technology is a hydrometallurgical process using a unique solvent extraction formulation with process efficiencies higher than others has previously achieved. Unlike other processes, the MetSol technology does not produce Zinc metal; instead it delivers high purity Zinc Oxide in a form ready for resale at significantly higher profit margins than any other process in the market today.
